Construction sites are not usually seen as something beautiful. They are always noisy and disturbing to neighbours, and they block traffic etc. But they are always part of the city that no one can use, but only watch from the side. In this way the relationship between the construction site and the people is similar to that between the stage and its spectators.

Its stillness at night, together with the lighting of the city streets, form a staged scenario. Its raw state as an unfinished building in comparison to the other constructed buildings, also contributes to the atmosphere of the painting. Visitors are brought close to the construction site and see it from a new perspective.
